Session E1. Minor Voices

This session is dedicated to the empowerment of youth in the communities we serve. Often times students lack agency, are told to be quiet and their thoughts and opinions are diminished under the weight of authority but if we stop to listen, it can redirect our educational and artistic services in a more meaningful and impactful way, aiming straight at student interests. During the session we will explore topics of interest to youth, create narrative that speaks to their interests and ideas and export those ideas into poetic, movement, and/or theatrical performance. Participants will walk away with strategies to engage students in meaningful conversations, understand methods for generating performance material and produce a small performance art piece of their own.
