Madeline Calandrillo

A2. Literature at Play: Using Children's Books to Explore Topics of Identity through Theater 

Madeline Calandrillo (she/her) is a New York City–based applied theater practitioner, theatre-maker, and Momma to a toddler. She is the Director of Education at New York City Children’s Theater, creating inclusive and accessible theatrical experiences for young audiences. Madeline has developed arts education curricula across New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey and teaches with CO/LAB Theatre Group. She holds a Master’s in Applied Theatre from CUNY, where her thesis explored immersive theater for language development and community-building. She co-founded Jugando N Play, a multilingual theater company, and has presented workshops at national conferences including TYA/USA and for the Arthur Miller Foundation. In 2022, Madeline was selected to represent the United States at the Young IDEA LAB during the IDEA 9th World Congress in Iceland, a global celebration of drama in a changing world.
