We are thrilled to welcome Deirdre Johnson Burel to Arts & Action as our 2022 Keynote Presenter. With a career spanning over 25 years, Burel has built her name working to advance educational equity by informing and influencing state education policy as well as local community-based leadership.
Her work connects local community members with policymakers in ways that support more sustainable and aligned policy solutions, which has resulted in the establishment of numerous partnerships between local and national organizations. These include the Parent Leadership Training Institute, formed in partnership between the City of New Orleans’ Office of Youth and Families and the National Parent Leadership Institute, and the Louisiana Education Policy Fellowship Program, Louisiana’s only professional development program for emerging policy leaders seeking to improve student outcomes.
In her current role as Senior Program Officer at W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Burel leverages her diverse experience in the public and nonprofit sectors to support strategic philanthropic investment aimed at catalyzing systemic change. She believes that building pathways toward equitable education means new ways of thinking, working, and being.
Burel’s virtual Keynote Address will be held Thursday, March 31, 9:00 am – 9:30 am CT, in the Dryades Ballroom at NOPSI. View the full agenda here.
